Inuyama Castle is often said as the oldest castle of Japan. It was built in 1440 by Oda Nobunaga, one of Japan's most famous war lords, for his war base. However, the castle was destroyed during the earthquake in 1891. The owners, Naruse family, managed its restoration until it was given to the government in 2004. As such, it was also the only privately-owned castles in Japan.

A warning : the castle is a steep climb, however the view from the top is really impressive.
