Situated in Kobe, this romantic ryokan is within a 5-minute walk of Hosenji Temple and Arima Toy Museum. Tosen Shrine and Stamp Museum are also within 10 minutes.Arima onsen is a great onsen town to visit. It's compact enough (albeit a bit hilly) to walk around, and there are other sights around it (Mt Rokko) that are also within close proximity.
Taketoritei Maruyama is slightly further out from the buzz of the main street that's right by the station, but the staff are happy to drop you off and pick you up from anywhere in the town, which is pretty neat. The facilities are well maintained, and the staff make a good effort to ensure that you're comfortable. Most staff are bilingual (combinations of Japanese with English or Mandarin are most common), although it's definitely an advantage to speak some Japanese.
The baths are very well maintained as well, and each guest has the opportunity to book a 45min time slot (first come first served) in one of the 4 private onsen. Each has gold and silver baths, and has a view of the mountain side.
The spread of food at dinner was excellent, and the pacing of the courses on the first night was very good; the next course pretty much came just as we were finishing the previous one. However, the second night was a Saturday, and the kitchen was quite overwhelmed. We had to wait a while (around 10 min or more) between courses, and the increased time spent on dinner kinda derailed our plans for the evening. I think the staff said that someone called in sick at the last moment, which I guess isn't really their fault.
On the whole it was a very enjoyable stay, and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to go to Arima Onsen.
