Golden Gai is a very popular spot for grabbing a drink in a more non-commercial place. The area consists of over 200 small bars, clubs, and food shops crammed into six narrow alleys. It is very popular for people looking to experience a unique Tokyo-exclusive drinking experience.
The bars tend to be more catered for locals who will go for regular drinks, however, recently there seems to be more tourists who are interested in this one of a kind place to grab a drink and talk the night away. Although the architecture is very interesting and all the store lights look amazing at night it is strictly prohibited to take pictures in the area so be sure to refrain from doing so!
Another point to mention is that most of the bars have a cover fee for around 1000 yen and drinks do tend to be a bit more expensive so if you are on a tight budget this may not be the best spot for you but definitely worth looking around just to see what the talk is all about.
