Across a small bridge on the way to Matsumoto Castle, Nawate Dori is a row of small, traditional shops with an interesting recurring frog theme. You know you're in the right place when you see the large frog sculptures! (They were made by students from the Tokyo University for the Arts.)
There are a variety of shops selling souvenirs and snacks (inlcuding rice crackers, sweet snacks, soba, and all kinds.) I recommend the Taiyaki, sweet fish shaped pancakes filled with red bean paste.
Yohashira shrine is also on Nawate Street and is a lovely place to sit while enjoying your taiyaki or senbei (rice crackers) or to simply soak in the sun and people watch.
